BOTOX® Cosmetic, Fillers & the Sun

BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers are a normal part of life for some people. They help men and women achieve a smoother and more youthful appearance by ridding the skin of unwanted blemishes, like wrinkles and fine lines. And because you want to look your best for your upcoming vacation, you may think that getting these injectable treatments right before your trip seems like a great idea, right?! Well, yes and no. While there are physical benefits to getting these injections fresh for the summer, there are some things you need to consider. So, let’s break down BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, and the sun!

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable treatment that utilizes botulinum toxin A to immobilize the muscles to improve the appearance of crow’s feet and other lines in the upper portion of the face.

Men and women who undergo BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments can go in the sun after their treatment, but it is highly recommended that sunscreen of at least SPF 30 is used and facial coverings (hats and sunglasses) are worn at all times. Additionally, it is important to limit the amount of direct sun that your face receives.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers refers to a wide array of different products and treatments that help to literally fill in areas where the skin has thinned out. If you are planning on having dermal filler injections before your sun-filled outing, it is important that you undergo this treatment at least one week prior to being in the sun. Obviously, after that week, it is still strongly recommended that you wear sunscreen and stay away from direct sunlight to your treated areas. Because most dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, direct sun exposure can alter the effects of the fillers, disrupting the effects of the treatment and impacting the healing process, possibly making your skin’s reaction to the sun and injectable worse.

Other Skin Care Musts!

After your treatment, it is crucial that you stay hydrated, especially when you’re out in the sun. Using lotions to keep your skin supple and smooth will not only make you look good, but it will keep your skin protected, moisturized, and soft. This way, you won’t be creating any new issues to worry about.
